At City Academy, class size does not exceed 25
students. Small class sizes allow every student the opportunity
to establish a trusting relationship with a teacher and we are committed to ensuring
that individual learning styles are effectively accommodated. In
particular, small classes are designed to:
1)Support
Academic Progressand
college preparation
2)Educate
the Whole Person by providing a safe
environment for students' social and emotional growth as they
explore issues of adolescence with their peers and adults
3)Encourage
Active & Responsible Citizenship by providing a forum to practice being a proactive member of a
larger community
4)Strengthen
Family and School Communication by providing
a more personalized communication link between school and home. [back to top]
Curriculum
We Provide A
Challenging
Curriculum
City Academy provides a meaningful and engaging education through the challenging curriculum we offer our 7-12 grade students. Our six-year curriculum meets and surpasses the Utah State core curriculum. In addition, City Academy offers numerous Advanced Placement (AP) courses as well as the internationally recognized Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) courses. Click on these links for more information regarding state requirements, AP or CIE Examinations. For a list of AP and CIE course offerings anticipated for 2008-2009, please call the school office at 801-596-8489. [back to top]
Pomotion and Graduation
Graduating From
City Academy
Students and classes are grouped by divisions at City Academy. Each student must continue to make progress and meet the requirements in each of our three divisions. Division I includes students in 7th and 8th grades; Division II includes students in 9th and 10th grades, and Division III includes students in 11th and 12th grades. Each of the three divisions requires the annual completion of a student portfolio.
Along with a graduation portfolio, our graduation credit requirements are higher than those set by the state with a total of 28 required for graduation. The State of Utah also requires students to pass all three sections of the Utah Basic Skills Competency Test (UBSCT), or attempt the tests at least three times in order to receive a high school diploma. Below is a description of the requirements for promotion from Divisions I & II and graduation requirements for Division III. [back to top]
