Academic Teams

  • Mock Trial – City Academy 2016 High School State Champions! The Utah Mock Trial Competition is an academic competition sponsored by the Utah Bar Association in which a team of eight students simulate the roles of both attorneys and witnesses in a fictional trial situation. Preparing for a mock trial requires students to research and intellectually engage with important current topics that are selected for mock trial cases. Participating in mock trials requires students to think on their feet and exhibit grace under pressure.  Mock trial competition is a natural extension of the regular day authentic, rigorous, and civically oriented learning opportunities we are committed to providing for our middle and high school students.
  • Science Olympiad: STEAM learning explodes! Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets consisting of a series of 23 team events in each division, middle school and high school. By combining events from many scientific disciplines (ex. physics, geology, chemistry, engineering, biology) Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Students compete at regional and state competitions for the opportunity to win prizes, scholarships, and more while building a stronger sense of efficacy for science. Through Science Olympiads students extend their classroom learning through the kind of creative, independent exploration that Olympiad projects require.
  • US FIRST Robotics – We design and build awesome Robots! Our US FIRST Robotics Team competes against other school robots. How awesome is that?!?! Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. We call FIRST Robotics Competition the ultimate Sport for the Mind. The cool thing about FIRST Robotics Competition is…all skill levels are welcomed and needed, technical or non-technical.
